Return to About Us page. History of Port Lighting Systems Port Lighting was started in 1985 in a garage under the name of Todd's Stage Lighting and moved into a school bus for a short time. In late 1985 rental space was acquired in an old leather factory in Newburyport called the Tannery. The company operated at nights and on weekends. In late 1987 the company became known as Port Stage Lighting and became a full time business as a one-person sole proprietorship. The company split its workload between entertainment lighting and electrical contracting. In early 1989 the first employee was hired. The company kept busy with electrical contracting, lighting events, and permanent installations in schools and nightclubs. In 1992 Port Stage Lighting became Port Lighting Systems and moved to a new location in the Newburyport Industrial Park. In 1993 the company ceased providing electrical contracting services and became a full time lighting company. Port worked on several concert lighting and permanent installations while becoming a dealer and a retail source for lighting systems. The company became incorporated under the name of Lighthouse Productions (d/b/a Port lighting Systems) and has been enjoying a very steady growth throughout the 1990's while establishing a solid foothold in New England and national markets. This is largely attributed to a great team of people that joined the company during its first fifteen years of existence. On March first 2000, Port Lighting moved into a new 10,000 square foot state of the art facility in Amesbury, Mass. Just minutes off both interstates 495 and 95. This was a tremendous resource which greatly expanded our capabilities. As of April 16th 2005 Port Lighting has relocated to a new custom built 12,400 square foot facility in Seabrook, NH. This gives us 25% more space in both the offices and warehouse than the previous facility. With 3 loading docks, 2 - drive in doors, plenty of swing room for trucks and room for future expansion, we plan to be growing and serving our clients well from this site for many years to come. The facility is located a couple of minutes off of exit #1 in Seabrook NH, just over the border from Mass. We are perched seconds North of where Interstate 495 meets with 95 about 45 minutes North of Boston. Currently Port is providing lighting production services, sales, design, and permanent systems installation for a wide range of projects examples of which can be seen in our new color brochure.
