The New Hampshire SPCA is the oldest animal welfare organization in the state of New Hampshire. It started in 1872 when a group of concerned individuals noticed the cruel treatment working animals were being subjected to. Since the, the New Hampshire Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals has been committed to saving the lives of companion animals through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption; to promote learning, eliminate animal cruelty and be a leader in advancing the highest standards of animal welfare.
Adoption Services: The New Hampshire SPCA has a shelter with a wide range of animals looking for forever homes including dogs, cats, small animals, and horse & farm animals. They also have an online page where pet parents can look through at the selection before going to the shelter. The NHSPCA runs events and campaigns to bring together animals and adoptive pet parents.
Training Services: The NHSPCA provides training services for dogs with a variety of classes (puppy, adult dog, nosework, agility, and reactive). This training class helps keep dogs with behavioral issues from being surrendered as well as ensuring newly adopted dogs will be able to thrive.
Animal Legislation: The NHSPCA works with other humane organizations and the New Hampshire Federation of Humane Organizations to develop and strengthen legislation pertaining to companion animals throughout the state. They have a mission to eliminate animal cruelty and to be a leader in advancing the highest standards in animal welfare.
Veterinary & Community Services: The NHSPCA hosts a large variety of veterinary and community services. For the community, they have an alzheimer's cafe where those suffering from alzheimer's, dementia, and other memory issues can socialize and connect with each other and the animals. They also provide low-cost spray/neuter clinics, pet surrender services, emergency assistance for horses, resources for lost pets, pet loss, and own a pet cemetery.
Animal Protection Division: The NHPCA's Animal Protection Division investigates between 600-800 complaints of cruelty or neglect every year.
