What’s New and Beautiful in Energy Saving Lighting in Architecture

Visualize a hotel exterior in the heart of a big city at nighttime. Lights illuminate the establishment’s sign, but the rest of the building fades into the darkness. Now imagine the same hotel awash in blue LED lights, highlighting the architecture, drawing attention to the building, and creating a striking exterior to welcome guests. The second tableau packs a much greater aesthetic and emotional punch.

Whether it's inside or outside a building, architectural lighting draws attention to the textures, colors, and forms of any space. It can enhance a building’s history, purpose, and beauty. Today’s energy-efficient lighting has the power to create drama and pave the way for a brighter, greener tomorrow. There is endless potential for conservation and gorgeous aesthetics.

Here’s how today’s state-of-the-art lighting is both eco-friendly and the perfect complement to modern architecture.

Eco-friendly LED lights for architecture

Environmentally friendly LEDs use up to 90% less energy, last up to 25% longer than incandescent bulbs, and can also last up to four times longer than compact fluorescent lamps. LED lights can also be emitted in a specific direction. Because less light is wasted or trapped within reflectors and diffusers, they use less energy. This directional aspect also means LEDs are ideal for placing lights where they are needed most, which is useful for task lighting and recessed downlights.

Color changing effects

230110-whats-new-and-beautiful-in-energy-saving-lighting-in-architecture-1Color-changing LEDs contain three separate diodes within each bulb casing that emit red, blue, or green lights. You can create a range of hues by adjusting the intensity of each diode. These dynamic lights can transform a plain building exterior into an impactful light show. For example, every window in a building could radiate an array of hue-changing effects throughout the day and night, or be programmed to reflect themes, such as a specific holiday or special events.

Luminous surfaces

With the latest LED technology, lights can be integrated directly into walls or ceilings, or projected onto sound-minimizing fabric panels, creating gentle, fluid motion. With added animation, the light can resemble a flickering candle flame or rippling water. Projecting LED lights onto a ceiling surface hide the light source and enhance the daytime appearance.

LED video walls

100_Front_Street_Color_Changing_LED_Screen_Port_Lighting_Systems-1LED video walls are large screens made of light-emitting diodes that project videos and images onto screens or surfaces, creating enhanced audio and visual experiences. The only limit to LED video walls is your imagination. These displays enhance architecture by transforming any surface or space into a digital façade to communicate information, advertise a product or business, or entertain onlookers. The seamless images are scalable to any size or shape, space or surface, and can even include interactive functions for viewers.
